"Love and Reproductive Struggles: A Feminist Politics of Care" – CSWS Jane Grant Dissertation Fellow Rhiannon Lindgren argues in her research that the ambiguity of caring labor – that it can both secure and oppose the reproduction of dominating social relations – demands a renewed feminist politics to confront global capitalism, white supremacy, and imperialism. In this Noon Talk, Lindgren will focus on the second half of her dissertation, which she wrote during her fellowship year. In evaluating the familial analyses in Black feminist scholarship and queer politics in US, Lindgren will discuss the necessity of politics of care moving beyond the narrow boundaries of affirmative family politics. In detailing efforts of Black women and queer people which intervene in the way in which caring labor is demanded and performed, she uses historical evidence to demonstrate the potentiality of understanding caring labor and relations as sites of feminist political struggle.

Rhiannon Lindgren is a PhD candidate in philosophy. Her research in social and political philosophy seeks to put emancipatory political struggles in conversation with feminist political and ethical theories. She is a community organizer and loves riding bikes.
